The Greatest Hindrance

The other day I heard an amazing, eye opening, message from a preacher in Kansas. He preached on the greatest hindrance, or sin, of Christianity. He said it was not substance abuse, pornography, liberalism, etc. He said it is “Pluralism”. The dictionary describes it as,

“The holding of more than one ecclesiastical living at a time.”

What does that actually mean? It means holding onto our own agenda, our own lifestyle we desire, and adding Christ in it like you would add a piece to a puzzle.

But the Bible tells us throughout it that we are to make God first place in our life, and everything in this world is to be second place. Christ told the disciples,

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”(Matt 6:33)

Too many Christians, and churches, are allowing the world to draw them into identifying with their philosophy and teachings. Instead of making God first and foremost. And this of pluralism is growing stronger, and more popular, every day. Many don’t even see the “shift” and damage it is doing.

But here is a thought. The devil never expects a Christian to fall down and be a devil worshipper. He just doesn’t want us to serve God with our whole heart, nor make Christ our all in all. Just don’t serve God, but piece Him in there. Don’t identify with Christ first. Just cruise through life like you want, but make sure and add Christ in once and while under that name of “Christianity”.

But what did Christ tell us?

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

That means He is the only way and should be first in everything that consumes us.

Let me close with what Joshua said,

“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15)
