KNOWLEDGE OF SIN

(Rom 3:20b) “…for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”

We live in a world full of sin.  What was thought of as something you didn’t mention or do 20 years ago, is now open and many today don’t even have a second thought about it.  Why has it become so out of control?

The key words in this text are “law” and “knowledge”.  What has happened over the last decade or two in our court houses, our school buldings, and even in some churches today?  They have removed the 10 Commandments.  The reason is found in our text, “the knowledge of sin”.

The less man is reminded of their sin, the easier it is to live a life of sin and live like they are the only “god” they need.  When you think about it, we are our biggest idol we worship.  Now you may say that you don’t do that.  But realize that anything or anyone we put in front of God is an idol.

Maybe you think you are a “good person” and don’t need God, then why not go down through the 10 Commandments and find out.  Let’s look at just  one of them.  Have you ever told a lie?  It doesn’t matter if it is a “white” lie or just a blatant lie.  A lie is a lie.  So what does that make you then?  A LIAR!

(Rev 21:8b) “…all LIARS, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone…”
(James 2:10) “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is GUILTY of all.”

Friend, none of us can keep all the 10 Commandments, let alone just 1.  What do we do then? Acknowledge we are a sinner in need of a Saviour. –

(Rom 3:23) “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Turn to God, confess that you are a sinner and ask for His forgiveness. James just said we have offended Him, and its due to our sinful state before God.

(Rom 10:9-10) “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

The knowledge of sin is the first step to that of having a relationship with the God of universe, the Creator of all. An opportunity to have a home in Heaven, instead of an eternity in Hell. But we have to stop listening to our pride, and just listen to God’s Word.
