During the holiday times you see the true colors of people. Rude, greedy, selfish, and very ungrateful. There is not much courtesy you see anymore, and that is so sad. This should be a time of happiness, and joy.
Growing up as a boy my favorite holiday (and still is) was Thanksgiving. And my favorite time was going to my grandma's house on the farm. My grandma was the most courteous person I have ever known. And if we were out and about she would sure correct me if I was not being courteous to others. She was so selfless.
Jesus dealt with this also. And he was very clear in it. If we would all apply this to lives, and especially to the Holidays, then this can really be a joyous occasion. Jesus said, (Matt 7:12a) "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them..." Some have labeled this as the "Golden Rule".
But look at what Christ said here, (Mark 12:30-31) "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these." Jesus said none "greater than these". Sounds simple, but yet it does not show much in our society.
So this Holiday time let's put away "self", and be more like Jesus said here today. Simply put, just be COURTEOUS! It may make all the difference to someone. Plus, it would really show gratitude, and honor God.
