“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
This is the time of year that many enjoy, and there are those that don’t enjoy it. Many have different reasons to celebrate this season, and different definitions. But the bottom line is that, no matter what we believe or think, this is a season of giving.
Our text is what has been defined as the most popular verse in the Bible. And it displays the giving nature of a great God. And why did God give? Because of His love for you and me. Love is the very nature of God, and until we have a true Bible relationship with Him, we will never understand what true love is.
“He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” (1 John 4:8)
But here is what many do not realize. God so giving, and many never see it or even acknowledge it. But yet in the Bible, from the first verse in Genesis to the last verse in Revelation, it speaks of God “giving”.
In our text it tells us what God gave, His only begotten Son. Why did He do this? Because of what the first man did, sinned and plunged the human race into a sinful state.
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” Romans 5:12
But it is not over, and God is going to give again unto. Again, because He loves you and me.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
Friend, realize that a gift is not a gift unless we accept it. Accept His perfect gift to you, salvation. When you do you will realize what true “giving” is all about. And God asks of a gift from you. He wants you, as in giving ourselves unto God every single day.
Christmas is all about giving, and God gives the perfect example of the perfect gift. Will you accept it today?
